Agfa HealthCare has succesfully installed ORBIS™ in its Italian pilot site, the Italian Malzoni Hospital (Clinica Medica Malzoni) in Avellino, one of the hospitals of the Malzoni Hospital Group (Gruppo Malzoni). ORBIS is Agfa HealthCare's leading Hospital and Clinical Information System (HIS/CIS), that manages the entire patient-centric information flow through all hospital departments. The system allows for the enhancement of the quality of patient care by giving fast access to all patient records, including images and data. These records are made available to authorised staff, allowing for quicker and better diagnoses and treatment. As ORBIS contributes to the implementation of workflow-based clinical paths, linked to the related administrative processes, the system also plays a key role in the improvement of efficiency in the hospital sector.

During the first installation phase in the Malzoni Hospital Group, which started 5 months ago and has now successfully been brought to an end, four ORBIS modules (Master Data & Security, Ward Graphic, Medical Documentation and Order Entry & Result Reporting) were installed in the Obstetric-Gynaecology department of the Malzoni Hospital Group. The department, counting 90 beds in 2 different sites, has been working with the system for about one month now. In the second project phase, the Agfa HealthCare HIS will be rolled out to the other wards of the hospital, the Laboratory Information System (LIS) of the hospital group will be interfaced and Agfa HealthCare's RIS/PACS will be implemented. In the third and final phase of the project other clinical modules of ORBIS will be implemented as well.

The Malzoni Hospital Group, one of the largest private healthcare groups in the South of Italy and a user of Agfa HealthCare's CR solutions, directly or indirectly controls over 500 inpatient beds and a series of outpatient facilities in the Campania region. For the group, the key reason to choose Agfa HealthCare as a strategic hospital IT partner, was the conceptual design of the core system of ORBIS. It is inherently based on processes, with macro- and micro-workflows and functions that can be tailored to the specific needs of its hospitals. The group now has the possibility of creating control nodes for its key processes, resulting in direct traceability and accountability of all decisions and interventions. An additional reason for the hospital group to opt for ORBIS is that the core system can be easily connected to all existing departmental systems currently in use in the group. Finally, ORBIS' installed base, with 400,000 daily users in 750 hospital sites throughout Europe, has also contributed to the group's preference for Agfa HealthCare.
