Firelands Regional Medical Center provides a high quality, didactic lecture series in a state-of-the-art conference center. In addition, OMT Rounds are held regularly to advance the osteopathic distinctiveness of education at Firelands. Medical Grand Rounds are held twice monthly and Cancer Conferences are every Friday morning. For variety and fun, medical game shows are hosted periodically throughout the year.
Firelands Regional Medical Center announced $150 million expansion over the next few years. The project will entail a Patient Tower, a Cancer Center, and a Parking Garage. The Tower will be four stories and house 47 medical and surgical beds, 38 step down and critical care beds, space for ten operating room suites with prep and recovery areas, as well as a Heart Center layout with invasive and noninvasive cardiology services in contiguous spaces.
Orthopedic Residency
The osteopathic orthopedics residency program at Firelands Regional Medical Center is designed to accommodate the individual learning needs of osteopathic physicians who have completed an American Osteopathic Association approved internship, and plan to pursue a career in orthopedic surgery. The program provides the osteopathic resident with advanced and concentrated training in orthopedic surgery and prepares the resident for examination for certification in orthopedic surgery.
The specialty of orthopedic surgery consists of the investigation, restoration and development of the form and function of the extremities, spine and associated structure by medical, surgical and physical methods. The purpose of the osteopathic orthopedic residency program is to: 1) provide continuity of didactic and clinic experience which will enable the resident to become proficient in examination, diagnosis and treatment of orthopedic patients, while integrating osteopathic principles and practice as they relate to the specialty; and 2) provide the resident with properly organized, progressive responsibility in the care of patients.
