On September 27, 2006 Euyeal Zeleke, President of the Ethiopian Orphans of Aids Foundation, asked DOTmed users to donate excess medical equipment and supplies to AIDS-ravaged Ethiopia. Zeleke cited statistics such as nearly a million Ethiopian children orphaned by the disease and about 5,000 new infections recorded weekly -- and the number keeps growing.

Most of the rural health facilities in Ethiopia are unable to deliver proper medical care due to lack of basic medical instruments, equipment, and supplies. Used to reading news reports on DOTmed about aquariums in emergency rooms and aromatherapy in recovery rooms, it is nearly impossible for people in developed countries to envision medical facilities that are virtually empty and lack basic equipment -- like beds!

This video takes us to Ethiopia and gives us a first-hand glimpse of the medical conditions that AIDS victims face and shows us how donating one meager piece of equipment has the potential to ameliorate the harsh circumstances that the 77 million people in the country face on a daily basis.
We have all heard the adage that a picture is worth one thousand words, and this video proves it.
