Hi, I would like to talk about our "vision" this time. By using "vision," I mean eyesight. I attended "International Vision Expo East 2007" on last Friday as a part of the DOTmed News Team. The Expo is the largest gathering of ophthalmic professional in the Americas. There were about 1,000 exhibitors in the contact lens, low vision, medical diagnostic and pharmaceutical product industries. It was quite an active show, and many of you may be interested in attending the expo next year.

International Vision Expo East 2008 will be held at the Jacob Javits Convention Center in New York City on April 11 to 13, 2008.

For myself, I wear contact lens during the day and glasses at night. Sometime my eyes get dry so badly. I know there are some things I can think of the cause - evaporating tears more quickly when we wear soft lens, less blinking when we use a computer, aging, environmental conditions and so on.
I found there are some more issues to cause dry eyes such as alcohol and caffeine consumption and gender. Both alcohol and caffeine lead to dehydration and dry eyes. Women are more likely to have dry eyes than men due to hormonal changes.
So how can we reduce our risk of dry eyes? I assume that the easy ways are to use eye drops to moisten, try to avoid alcohol and caffeine as much as you can, clean contact lens well, keep your body well hydrated and wear close-fitting sunglasses when you are outside. Besides those things, I heard that eating salmon once a week or taking a daily supplement of omega-3 fatty acids help, believe or not.
Anyway, if you have more serious problems with your eyes, you better see your doctor to have appropriate treatments. Let's be in healthy to see your bright life!
