I am Akane Naka from Japan,
an intern at DOTmed.
You can read my
diary every week here in
DOTmed News
Hi, this is my 50th diary since I started writing on DOTmed. Yes, that means I have been here about for a year. It is hard for me to believe that I already spent that long at DOTmed and in NYC. I have had good opportunities and experiences in many ways. I still have about a half year; thus I would like to try various things and enjoy them rest of my months here!
As you know, we had a huge storm, which still lingers, last weekend in the Northeast including NYC. The storm dropped a record-breaking 8inches of water in NYC. When I woke up on Sunday, I didn't realize it was that bad, therefore I went out to do some shopping. Well, yes, I was so wrong. I got soaked because of the heavy rain and strong wind. I am so sorry there are still many people who are having a hard time with this terrible storm everywhere.

Speaking of a disaster, there was a quite big earthquake around my hometown, Mie-prefecture (located to the east of Osaka) in Japan last weekend. I found out about it on also Sunday morning when I read the news on a Japanese site. The earthquake occurred around noontime in Japan. I was surprised when I found it out and called my family to make sure whether they were ok. (All of my family was fine, by the way.) Fortunately, no one died, yet 12 people got injured from the earthquake.
As a matter of the fact, there is no way to escape from those kinds of natural disasters because we are not able to guess exactly when, where and how they are going to happen. However, we can prepare and get ready for them from our past experiences so let's think what we need when we face a state of emergency.
Here are what I think we should have in our Emergency Kit:
-Flashlight
-Radio
-First Aid Kit
-Blankets
-Shelf Life Food
-Bottled Water
-Survival Whistle
-Duct Tape
-Tissue
-Waste Bags
What else do we need?
