May 23, 2017 - "Online Dosimetry with the Integral Quality Monitor" was the title of a presentation given by Kilian Michel from Lake Constance Radiation Oncology Clinic, in Friedrichshafen, Germany, during the ESTRO 36 conference in Vienna.
The team in Friedrichshafen has been thoroughly evaluating the IQM System for more than 18 months now. A few weeks ago, they decided to equip all three of their Linear Accelerators with the IQM System for real-time verification during the patient treatment. Kilian shared some of the exciting results that they have achieved with the IQM System to date. Less than 1% variation seen while measuring various VMAT plans more than 120 times over a period of 4 months indicates a good stability for daily clinical use during patient treatment.
The error detection sensitivity has been tested by introducing 10 different errors in 15 different VMAT plans. Both over- as well as under-dosage was reliably detected by the IQM System.

In addition, the team found a strong correlation between changes in the IQM signal and changes in the Gamma-Index. But unlike the Gamma-Index, they found that the changes in IQM signal also strongly correlate with changes in the Dose-Volume-Histograms. This indicates a high clinical relevance for the IQM error detection capabilities.
