A community-owned, not-for-profit health system in Mississippi, Singing River Health System provides email encryption and data loss prevention to all employees, physicians and staff to securely exchange protected health information (PHI), enable efficient quality care and protect patient trust.

With automatic scanning of email, Singing River Health System can protect PHI and other sensitive information, such as personal financial data or employee records, by encrypting emails that leave its network or quarantining them for review.

If an email triggers the quarantine policy, a notification message alerts the employee, the user’s manager and/or IT administrators. In reviewing the message, policy violations are identified, and the violating content is highlighted for easy recognition. The email can be deleted, or it can be released with justification and then encrypted based on policies.

Encrypted emails are automatically decrypted and delivered transparently if recipients use Zix’s policy-based email encryption. Of the 1.5 million Zix encrypted messages delivered every business day, approximately 70 percent are delivered transparently, without the need for passwords or extra steps. If recipients do not use a Zix solution, encrypted messages are delivered in less than two steps through a mobile-friendly, secure Web portal.
