TUSTIN, CA - Less than six months after the Toshiba America Medical Systems launch of the Aplio™ XG, Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center selected Toshiba's Aplio XG ultrasound system for its pediatric ultrasound division. Toshiba will deliver 13 Aplio XG ultrasound systems at Cincinnati Children's, the nation's premier site for pediatric radiology.

"Aplio XG's high frequency transducers and small footprint probes produce high-quality images on smaller patients, regardless of penetration depth, making Aplio XG ideal for Cincinnati Children's pediatric ultrasound needs," explained Dr. Sara M. O'Hara, director of the division of pediatric ultrasound at Cincinnati Children's.

According to Cincinnati Children's, the decision to purchase Toshiba's Aplio XG, was based on the system's ability to:

* utilize high frequency transducers to achieve high-quality imaging regardless of depth
* address color and Doppler sensitivities allowing for fine color detail images
* offer ergonomically-friendly features making the system easy-to-use, resulting in increased patient throughput and operator productivity

"Historically, sound physics has dictated that the deeper the ultrasound penetration, the lower the image quality," explained Gordon Parhar, director, Ultrasound Business Unit at Toshiba. "Aplio XG's state-of-the-art technology breaks through this mold by using high frequency transducers and differential tissue harmonics to deliver outstanding contrast resolution, as well as penetration, without sacrificing image quality. Toshiba also uses an exclusive advanced dynamic flow Doppler technique that allows for fine detail and spatial resolution in micro-vessels, resulting in a more accurate representation of hemodynamic flow in the small vessels, which are routinely interrogated in pediatric ultrasound studies."

As part of its commitment to client service, Toshiba customized Cincinnati Children's 13 Aplio XG systems by adding smaller footprint probes to maximize use on small patients, which typically range from infants to teenagers. In addition, Toshiba is the only ultrasound manufacturer to offer customized key placement on ultrasound control panels, upon client request, placing specific keys together to reduce repetitive stress issues and increase operator efficiency.

Toshiba's Aplio XG, which was introduced at the Radiological Society of North American conference (RSNA) in November 2006, offers the latest advancements in diagnostic performance and operator comfort for general and pediatric ultrasound use.
