Hi, how was your weekend? Although the weather was a little bit chilly to me, I really had a good weekend.
On Saturday, before I went to Central Park to picnic with my friend, we stopped by a market to get something for lunch. At the market, I found a white radish-like stick vegetable called "
Jicama." (The original shape looks like an onion. It was already peeled and cut into sticks to sell.) I had never seen and eaten it, so I had no idea what it was.
I was told that Jicama belonged to the legume or bean family and was grown in Mexico and Central America. (AKA - Mexican Potato or Chinese Turnip) How does it taste? It's crispy and sweet just like a pear. Jicama is a very versatile vegetable that contains a high amount of vitamin C, is low in sodium, and has no fat. Sounds perfect, doesn't it? I think many of you are already familiar with Jicama, yet if you have never heard or seen of it, go to a market and try it!

On Sunday, I happened to see a famous star at a Japanese restaurant. Guess who! He was..."
Lou Reed!" He is from Brooklyn, NY and used to be in an American rock band named "The Velvet Underground." To be honest with you...I didn't know anything about him at all until I met him on Sunday. My friend who was with me realized and was so excited to see him. (When I went back to my home, I googled him right away and found out how famous and popular he was!!)
Normally, people tend to hesitate to talk to a celebrity, but we were different. Since he was wearing cool NIKE shoes, we spoke to him about the shoes and asked him to let us touch them. (He might think we were weird Japanese, though.) I wonder why we didn't ask him about his songs or something nicer instead of his SHOES... now I feel a little stupid. Oh well...Anyway, he was a very nice and cool guy!
