SAN FRANCISCO, CA - GE Healthcare today announced the launch of the company's new family of LightSpeed CT systems that now include exclusive Volara digital Data Acquisition System (DAS), and the Xtream FX workflow platform. The announcement was made at the 7th Annual International Symposium on Multidetector-Row CT (MRCT) presented by the Stanford University School of Medicine, Department of Radiology.
The new family of systems, called the LightSpeed VFX Series, will utilize the Volara digital DAS technology, and Xtream FX workflow platform, originally developed for GE's LightSpeed VCT. As a result, clinicians will be able to tap many of the unprecedented images quality and productivity capabilities of the LightSpeed VCT on GE's 4, 8 and 16 slice CT systems.
"By bringing the innovations of our LightSpeed VCT to the entire LightSpeed family we are helping more clinicians enhance image quality and, in turn, patient care," said Gene Saragnese, Vice President and General Manager of the company's Global Functional and Computed Tomography (FCT) business.

According to GE customers, the LightSpeed VFX Series has set new standards with better image quality for high-resolution, low-dose imaging. The LightSpeed VFX Series also offers exclusive tools to facilitate review and communication, such as direct volume visualization with direct multi planar reformat (MPR).
"The combination of MDCT scanners with 16 slices or more, and the Xtream FX upgrade, including Direct MPR, hits a grand slam in terms of spatial resolution, speed, throughput and diagnostic capability," said Dr. Rendon Nelson, Duke University Medical Center.
Wide Open Workflow Platform
Included in the LightSpeed VFX series is the Wide Open Workflow with Xtream(TM) FX. Xtream FX is the second generation of GE's Xtream workflow technology, which provides imaging departments the ability to keep pace with the large volume of data generated by MDCT systems. A tool such as Direct Multi-Planar Reformat (DMPR) allows customers to improve interpretation efficiency, and provides views that are more familiar to referring physicians and surgeons. Xtream FX adds more "effects" to GE's scalable Xtream reconstruction engine, which revolutionized workflow design with increased speed, image quality, and workflow flexibility.
