LAUREL, MD -- The American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine (AIUM) welcomes Joshua Copel, MD, as its 2007-2009 president. Dr. Copel currently serves as Professor, Department of Pediatrics, and Vice Chairman, Obstetrics, Gynecology, and Reproductive Sciences, at Yale University School of Medicine in New Haven, Connecticut.
Dr. Copel has been an AIUM member since 1984 and has been extensively involved in many facets of the association over the past 23 years. He has served the AIUM in leadership, member, and liaison roles in more than 12 committees, completed 2 terms on the Board of Governors, and served more than 8 years on the Executive Committee in varying roles. Most recently, he has been a key participant on the AIUM Ultrasound Contrast Team and assisted in facilitating the last 3 AIUM Ultrasound Practitioners Forums.
As Copel begins his presidency, he states "Much of our agenda for the next 2 years will result from natural evolution from what we have been doing for the past several years. We must continue to reach out to other organizations to work on common guidelines and to encourage their users of ultrasound to attend our annual meetings and present their best work for common discussion." The AIUM's multidisciplinary foundation has been built on its unique ability to bring together all those interested in ultrasound to promote the exchange of information across specialties. Under Dr. Copel's leadership, the AIUM will continue to reach out and provide collaborative resources to emerging areas of ultrasound.
