Louvain-la-Neuve, Belgium, March 8, 2018 – IBA (Ion Beam Applications SA), the world's leading provider of proton therapy solutions, is hosting its 7th annual Proteus® User Meeting from March 9 to March 11, in Stockholm, Sweden. As the world's leading vendor of proton therapy systems, with more than 24 sites in operation and another 23 under construction, IBA is continuously gathering input from its proton therapy users.

The users' community is expanding every year. This year IBA will be welcoming more than 110 users, making IBA's proton therapy community the largest in the industry. There will be several new pioneers coming this year among which the first one to develop a proton therapy center in Africa. The number of centers in operation, equipped by IBA, keeps growing, enabling more and more patients all over the world to have access to this cutting-edge technology.

This year's User Meeting will be hosted by Skandion Clinic, in Uppsala, Sweden, a city closely related to the very origins of proton therapy. The Gustaf Werner Institute was actually one of the first facilities to use proton therapy to irradiate cancer in 1957.

This three-day meeting is a unique platform to gather IBA customers and exchange feedbacks that contribute to increase performance of operations and maintenance of the centers. This is also the opportunity to collect valuable inputs from clinicians to drive future technological developments. IBA customers, the most experienced practitioners in the field of proton therapy, will discuss clinical studies, treatment protocol developments, new indications and share their experience to facilitate a proper adoption of proton therapy.

Olivier Legrain, Chief Executive Officer, IBA: "The User Meeting is a key event for IBA. It helps us to understand the needs of our clinical partners. With 24 treating centers versus five for our main competitor, we gather extremely valuable feedbacks. These intense interactions allow us not only to stay ahead of our competitors in terms of product performance and new development, but also to support our customers in improving access to proton therapy to more patients who could benefit from it."

Peter Daneryd, Chief Executive Officer, Skandion Clinic: "We are very proud and honored that IBA has chosen to hold the 2018 User Meeting in Stockholm and Uppsala. This meeting has really developed over the years into an annual reference meeting for IBA users, and we are looking forward to three days of multi-professional interaction", says Peter Daneryd, CEO, MD PhD, Joint Commission of County Councils for Advanced Radiotherapy/the Skandion Clinic. "The Skandion Clinic is the first proton therapy center in the Nordics, and a true national collaborative effort that makes it a national concern of great importance."
