Proton Partners International has been granted formal technical and regulatory approval from Healthcare Inspectorate Wales to begin treating patients with proton beam therapy at its Rutherford Cancer Centre in Wales.
The independent inspectorate and regulator of healthcare in Wales visited the centre earlier this month, which will bring the most advanced treatments in cancer care to South Wales using innovative proton beam therapy. Approval was granted today following stringent checks and was the final point required ahead of the first patient being treated with high energy proton beam therapy in early April.
Proton Partners International Ltd opened its landmark Rutherford Cancer Centre in Newport earlier this year. The centre brings the most advanced treatments in cancer care to South Wales, including high energy proton beam therapy which is estimated by Proton Partners as being of benefit to around 10% of cancer patients throughout the UK.

The Rutherford Cancer Centres offer all-encompassing cancer services, including high energy proton beam therapy, radiotherapy, chemotherapy, immunotherapy, imaging and wellbeing services.
Treatment at the Rutherford Cancer Centre South Wales will be available to medically-insured private patients, self-paying patients and referrals by NHS Wales.
