AHIMA's Board of Directors appoints new advisor

CHICAGO – May 16, 2018 – The American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) Board of Directors welcomes John P. Hoyt, FACHE, FHIMSS, as an advisor to the Board. Hoyt begins this volunteer, non-voting position at the May 14 board of directors meeting.

Hoyt served as the Executive Vice President, HIMSS Analytics at the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) until his retirement in 2016. He has more than 20 years of executive committee leadership experience in healthcare, including consultancy work with IBM Healthline Services and First Data Health Systems Group, and over 22 years of experience in hospitals and health systems encompassing both the CIO and COO roles.

“John’s expertise in healthcare information systems is invaluable, and he will bring a unique perspective to the AHIMA Board of Directors,” said AHIMA Board President/Chair Diann H. Smith, MS, RHIA, CHP, FAHIMA. “The Board looks forward to working with John as we set long-term strategy and provide strategic guidance on issues important to AHIMA and its members.”

While with HIMSS Analytics, Hoyt was responsible for the leadership and direction of the organization’s Stage 6 and Stage 7 validations and derivative research. He is currently a consultant to HIMSS Analytics and works primarily with revised acute care Electronic Medical Record Adoption Model (EMRAM) standards.

“I am excited to work with the AHIMA Board of Directors in an advisory capacity,” Hoyt said. “I’ve long admired the great work AHIMA does in the health information management space and hope my leadership experience will be of value as the Board continues to move the organization forward.”

Hoyt will serve a one-year, non-voting term as advisor with the option for board reappointment two additional times for a total of three years. Alongside second-year advisor Dr. Anupam Goel and current Board President/Chair Diann Smith, Hoyt joins current Board of Director members:
