Cloud companies are also making aggressive moves into the AI imaging space. Google, AWS, and Microsoft are all vying to move hospitals to the healthcare cloud and will aim to leverage AI as a competitive advantage. Google, for example, recently partnered with Change Healthcare to build cloud-based PACS solutions. With growing migration to the cloud in the industry, AI usage will only become more crucial.

While it's still unclear what players will seize the tremendous value of AI for healthcare systems, startups, enterprise and investors should pay close attention to the stakeholders that will end up determining the success of new products and services. Those who do will find themselves part of a unique cadre who are setting the rules of the game, and thus, well positioned to create meaningful impact, benefiting providers and patients alike.
