I am Akane Naka from Japan,
an intern at DOTmed.
You can read my diary

Hello again -- DOTmed closed on last Wednesday for Independence Day. How did you spend your time? Did you have a good BBQ and see fantastic fireworks? Actually, the weather at night was not good in NYC -- raining and a little bit foggy.

Even though the weather was not pleasant, I went on the rooftop of my friend's apartment, which was located in East Village. There were many people enjoying fireworks in the rain with holding an umbrella in one hand and a bottle of beer in the other hand. It was quite a party with music, drinks and crazy people, and we had a good time together.

In Japan, we consider fireworks as summer things. Especially in August, firework displays are held all over. Every time I see fireworks here, I feel them different from ones in Japan. It is very hard to explain but I guess the atmosphere is not same. They set off fireworks constantly until the end in here, but on the other hand, we have intervals between them in Japan, and enjoy basking in the afterglow of fireworks. Also, we have several kinds of them. As you may not get a right image with my explanation, take a look at the link below to get an idea about Japanese fireworks.

Here is one more thing we consider as a summer thing. Yukata -- an informal cotton Kimono for the summer season. Many people wear this for firework displays. If you would like to wear Yukata and see fireworks in Japan, come visit to Japan this summer!

Changing a topic, I have something to announce you. This week is my last week at DOTmed since I am planning to go to a college in NYC for my education from this fall. Before the school starts, I am going back to Japan for a month. I should say good-bye to everyone in my next entry...that is sad. Anyway, I still see you next week!
