The Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) Research & Education (R&E) Foundation awarded the 2018 Strategic Radiology/RSNA Research Seed Grant to Sina Tavakoli, M.D., Ph.D. This grant is made possible by Strategic Radiology’s support of the RSNA R&E Foundation and is the first jointly named research seed grant with Strategic Radiology.
The Strategic Radiology/RSNA Research Seed Grant provides $40,000 for a one-year project to test hypotheses and obtain pilot data in preparation for major grant applications.
Sina Tavakoli, M.D., Ph.D., University of Pittsburgh, will investigate the role of quantitative 18F-fluoroglutamine PET in non-invasive metabolic imaging of macrophages in atherosclerosis. If successful, this approach may help to characterize the immunometabolic features of atherosclerotic lesions and eventually lead to more accurate identification vulnerable plaques.
