PALO ALTO, Calif., Nov. 28, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Continuing to expand access to cancer care globally, Varian (NYSE: VAR) announced it was selected by Medical Specialist Holdings (MSH) to equip seven of its centers in South Africa with Varian linear accelerators and Eclipse™ treatment planning system. The largest private radiation oncology provider in South Africa, MSH selected the Eclipse system to serve as the backbone for treatment planning across its entire network, allowing the radiotherapy treatment units to centralize data, share knowledge and expertise. The seven linear accelerators included in the order are three Halcyon™, two TrueBeam® and two VitalBeam™ systems.

"We look forward to our partnership with Varian and creating greater access to this advanced treatment technology," said Ernst Marais, chief operating officer of MSH. "The next six months will kick off a 3-year rollout of new planning and treatment systems across our network, and we are very excited to make this technology available to oncologists, enabling them to deliver excellent patient care."

"We are proud MSH, as the largest private radiation oncology treatment provider in South Africa, has selected Varian as its partner to expand access to advanced cancer care across the country," said Jean-Luc Devleeschauwer, president, Varian Oncology Systems EMEIA. "The combination of the installation of advanced systems like Halcyon and Eclipse treatment planning software across the MSH network, creates the opportunity to deliver much needed cancer care and positively impact more patient lives."

Varian booked this order in the first quarter of its current fiscal year.
