How I lost 150 lbs with diet and exercise

by Philip F. Jacobus, CEO | January 02, 2019

People I had not seen in a while told me I looked good and noticed I’d lost weight.

When I started to exercise I could barely stay on the elliptical machine for 5 minutes, and now I can do 50 pushups and I am 64 years old. My A1c came down to 5.2 from a high of 5.9, my knees and lower back don't hurt anymore, and my sciatica is almost all gone.

One drawback is my suit size went from 52 to 44 so I had to give away almost 30 suits and blazers, but it was worth it.

I did all this while flying over 100 times a year and spending more than 120 nights in a hotel during the entire process.

I still exercise every day and watch my diet.

If I can do it anybody can.

Hillary's book helped me more than the doctor or anything else because she told me what I had to do. The book explained not only what to do, but why, and what would happen if I kept on the path I was on.

I feel better about myself, and I just feel better.

In fact, I feel so good I went out and bought 50 copies of Hillary's book. I gave away 5 at RSNA and 15 as holiday gifts so I still have 30 left. The first 30 people who write to me will get a free copy in the mail. If I just help one person to live longer, or be less uncomfortable seeing themselves naked in the mirror, or make their spouse happy, I will have built up some great karma for myself.

Write to me if you want a copy.

Good luck in 2019. I wish you health and wealth.

You are an inspiration!

January 11, 2019 09:52

My usual Thursday routine includes reading the DHB Daily news with my morning coffee. I missed this last Thursday 01/03 as I was away in Texas on holiday with my family. Today's issue triggered my memory. I went back to my Inbox and read last week's issue. I am glad I did. I would've missed your inspiring column otherwise!

Congratulations on your achievement. You are an inspiration to so many who are in the same boat. I don't have major weight problems to deal with but I sure do realize I don't eat right. I have to follow your footsteps. The only thing in your column that comes as a damper to me is you are saying you don't drink wine regularly. Ever since the medical fraternity started singing praise of red wine, I have made a glass a day with dinner my daily routine. Perhaps I should rethink in the light of your experience!

Hi Wayne, this is a new year surprise! Happy New Year to the Moore family. I continue to peddle in used MRs and CTs. Can't believe I'll be hitting the 11th year anniversary in 2 months! Update me on you. I'm pretty sure you are firing on all cylinders as usual :)
