MINNEAPOLIS, Minn., (March 26, 2019) – vRad (Virtual Radiologic), a MEDNAX Radiology Solutions practice and the nation’s leading teleradiology services and telemedicine company, announced today that the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office has issued the Company’s 19th patent. Patent No. 10,198,816 B2, entitled “Medical Evaluation Machine Learning Workflows and Processes”. This further strengthens MEDNAX Radiology Solutions’ position as a leader in radiology workflow technology, enabling interpretation quality and efficiency. The MEDNAX Common Imaging Platform, powered by vRad, enables MEDNAX Radiology Solutions to integrate thousands of facilities in all 50 states through the industry’s only national technology platform.

The 19th patent covers methods and systems for automated image recognition using artificial intelligence (AI) in an electronic workflow and for performing a diagnostic evaluation of a medical image study that can be modified, updated or prioritized. Once the AI-based evaluation is completed, the study can be re-routed, prioritized, or modified to enable a specialist to quickly get “eyes on images”, evaluating the patient’s clinical situation to determine if they require immediate urgent care, while also ensuring a complete and accurate diagnosis.

“This patent is another milestone that allows us to help radiologists focus their expertise where and when it matters most,” said Shannon M. Werb, President and Chief Operating Officer of vRad. “Using AI to automate an initial triage of images, enable efficient workflow, and ensure a radiologist can provide a complete and accurate report, improves patient care through better workflow, higher-quality reporting and optimized efficiency. I’m pleased to see this technology become available at national scale through the MEDNAX Common Imaging Platform.”
