The American Society for Radiation Oncology (ASTRO) welcomed Nina Taylor this week as its new Vice President of Learning and Education. Taylor succeeds Lynn Brown, who will retire in May after nine years at ASTRO.

As the head of ASTRO's education team, Taylor will provide strategic leadership for all of the medical society's educational programming, including in-person meetings and online education via the ASTRO Academy, as well as efforts to develop innovative programs to meet the continuing medical education (CME) needs of the radiation oncology workforce. She also will oversee efforts to integrate more interactivity, networking and curated content into ASTRO's Annual Meeting, which attracts more than 10,000 physicians, scientists and other health care professionals from around the world.

"Nina brings to ASTRO a rich and diverse background in education delivery to an array of medical providers, including a track record of developing and implementing new types of professional education," said ASTRO CEO Laura Thevenot. "We are excited to have her join our team and look forward to introducing new ways to keep radiation oncologists engaged with the latest research and clinical advances in cancer care."

Taylor has more than 12 years of experience in adult learning, CME, accreditation and business management. Before joining ASTRO, Taylor was deputy director of the division of education for the American Psychiatric Association (APA), where in 2016 she was named Innovator of the Year for her work creating the Mental Health Innovation Zone, Psychiatry Innovation Lab and Learning Lab. She also worked as education manager for the American Gastroenterology Association Institute and as senior manager of CME and educational partnerships for a medical education communication company specializing in oncology and virology.

Taylor earned a master's degree in human resource development with a concentration in business strategy, adult learning and operations from Bowie State University in Bowie, Maryland, and a bachelor's degree in psychology and sociology from La Roche College in Pittsburgh. She also has consulted for government and nonprofit groups including the Southern Maryland Tri-County Action Committee, the Raleigh Chamber of Commerce and Greater Goodwill of Washington, D.C.
