Omega Medical Imaging has released Soteria.AI, an image-guided X-ray system designed specifically for interventional cardiology labs.

The first FDA-approved, AI-enabled X-ray solution for cardiology, the solution reduces dose up to 84% with AI, while still delivering quality images. It does this with AI-enabled automatic region of interest (ROI) detection and an ultra-fast secondary collimator that goes beyond filtering and blocks the X-ray beam completely during interventional operations.

Whereas traditional interventional systems expose the entire field of view to full radiation, AI-enabled ROI systems automatically identify the physician’s region of interest and collimate to that ROI. The area outside of the ROI, the full field of view (FOV) is refreshed every set number of frames.

“Omega's advanced image processing seamlessly integrates the ROI and FOV into one continuous image while maintaining superior image quality. This exclusive technology reduces radiation exposure by up to 84% to the patient and everyone in the room during both fluoro and cine acquisitions,” Dan Alred, marketing manager at Omega Medical Imaging, told HCB News.

Soteria.AI’s floor-mounted C-arm design enables it to adjust positioning and provide projections that normally larger ceiling-mounted systems would be required to do. Unlike these more costly machines, Soteria.AI does this with minimal downtime and at a lower installation cost.

As a result, staff have better access to patients, which means that they can load and upload quicker. They also have easier access to IVs, transducers and other components, which, along with the automatic nature of the collimator, saves time and allows for better patient throughput and better overall workflow. Additionally, the automatic collimation is a hands-free solution, meaning that physicians and staff members do not need to control it.

“The nature of AI-enabled technology is its unique ability to be taught pertinent regions of interest for all exams. With this information, it automatically collimates to an ROI and significantly reduces radiation dose to physicians, staff, and patients beyond that of traditional, non-AI systems — thereby improving the quality of care,” said Alred.
