FLUSHING, N.Y. -- WorldWide Medical Imaging, Inc. is a re-marketer of used radiology and diagnostic imaging equipment, laboratory equipment, and general medical equipment. The well established, decade-old company of about a half-dozen employees is run by seasoned industry pros including 30-year veteran Dom Sarle, the company's president. "Believe it or not, it's an old adage, but we do put the customer first, even over profits. Sometimes we've finished [a project] and made little or no money, but we've gained a good customer, and that means a lot to us," he said.

A typical example is the recent installation of a C-Arm X-ray device for a clinician in Florida, a simple project that led to a far more sophisticated CT scanner sale to the same physician.

Working out of its two facilities, corporate offices in Flushing, Queens and a warehouse in Deer Park, N.Y., the company does crating on premises and uses freight forwarders to ship equipment to markets worldwide.

The latest thrusts for the company includes a move toward larger equipment, and complete turnkey operations, including site-preparation and installations for imaging centers. "We are finding more and more of that and it's a full-service situation. We're finding we need to have everything that has anything to do with imaging such as bone densitometry, all the way over to MRI and CT," Sarle said.

The other big influence on the market is the Internet, with its tremendous business potential as well as challenges. "We've found out we have to respond quicker. So we make sure we have more than adequate backup for anything we sell--technical service, backup parts, backup equipment."

At the same time, the company spreads its risk and builds its client base by getting in the door with some smaller, everyday devices.

"We try to keep loose enough so we can handle an MRI with the proper people and yet serve a doctor looking for a spirometer or EKG. We still keep our hand in that to ensure we are constantly bringing revenue in."
