Tiger Woods is taking
a break from golf
to have surgery
on his knee
Tiger Woods will take the rest of the season off to undergo reconstructive knee surgery of the ACL in his left knee. He injured the ligament while running last summer. In addition, Woods will rehabilitate a double stress fracture of the left tibia, which was discovered last month prior to the Memorial Tournament. The stress fractures were the result of intense rehabilitation from the April surgery Woods underwent to clean out cartilage.
"Now, it is clear that the right thing to do is to listen to my doctors, follow through with this surgery, and focus my attention on rehabilitating my knee," Woods said.
His doctors said the long-term prognosis is good with rehab and training.

Woods was clearly in distress at the U.S. Open, which he won Monday after a full playoff round and sudden death hole against Rocco Mediate.
The ACL surgery will be number four on his left knee. Woods also had surgery in 1994 to remove a benign tumor, and arthroscopic surgery in 2002.
In addition to the two remaining majors of the season, the British Open and PGA Championship, he will miss the Ryder Cup.
