GE HealthCare and Tampa General Hospital (TGH) are expanding their long-term partnership to deploy imaging tech across TGH Imaging’s outpatient facilities throughout Florida.
Tampa General Hospital is a 981-bed, not-for-profit academic health system. It serves as the primary teaching hospital for the USF Health Morsani College of Medicine and is noted for its comprehensive care, including Level l trauma and burn care, a nationally accredited stroke center, and one of the busiest adult solid organ transplant centers in the country.
TGH Imaging operates 21 outpatient radiology centers across four counties in Florida, providing advanced radiology services through over 65 board-certified radiologists. These specialists, affiliated with the University of South Florida Morsani College of Medicine, will benefit from GE HealthCare’s advanced imaging technologies, facilitating more accurate diagnoses and treatment plans.
John Couris, president and CEO of Tampa General, emphasized the impact of this initiative: “By investing in GE HealthCare’s technologies, we’re not just enhancing the patient experience, but also improving patient outcomes. Faster and more accurate diagnoses can lead to better treatment plans and more lives saved.”
The partnership,
which began in 2019, has already seen successful implementations, such as the CareComm command center using GE HealthCare’s Command Center Software and a comprehensive upgrade of imaging technology across TGH facilities.
In 2020, the health system reported a $40 million reduction of system-wide inefficiencies via GE’s Command Center Software, which utilized 20 AI applications to optimize minute-to-minute patient care operations with real-time actionable information used in CareComm and throughout the hospital.
In March 2023, TGH Imaging was the first in Florida to install GE HealthCare’s
Omni Legend digital PET/CT system. Designed to enhance theranostics, the solution has two times the sensitivity of prior digital scanners, allowing it to image high-count tracers for cardiac and neuro imaging and produce faster total scan times, with a greater ability to identify small lesions.
