CHRISTUS Health has commenced construction on a new emergency hospital in Palestine, expanding its healthcare services in East Texas.

The 20,000-square-foot facility, located adjacent to the CHRISTUS Magnolia clinic, is slated for completion by fall 2025.

CHRISTUS Trinity Mother Frances Health System President Jason Proctor, alongside city and county officials, highlighted the importance of this development for the local community. “I stand here today humbled and excited to think that in the not-so-distant future, we are going to have an amazing facility on this ground,” Proctor said. “I cannot thank the city, the mayor and everyone involved in this [enough] for making it a reality. Palestine is an area we had prioritized for expansion, and we are thrilled to deliver on that.”

The facility, representing a $30 million investment, will operate 24/7, providing 10 inpatient beds, 15 emergency room beds, comprehensive imaging services, and on-site laboratory facilities. It will also create employment opportunities, with 25 full-time nurses and providers.

Palestine Mayor Mitchell Jordan emphasized the impact of this project on the community. “I have been in Palestine my whole life and I understand the importance of health care here probably better than anyone,” Jordan said. “We are now even more plugged into the vast network of CHRISTUS and its resources. This is a win for Palestine and for all of Anderson County and surrounding areas.”

This initiative marks CHRISTUS Health's third expansion in East Texas, following similar projects in Henderson and Mount Pleasant. Chris Glenney, CHRISTUS Health senior vice president of group operations Northeast Texas and North Louisiana, stated, “It is a major initiative of CHRISTUS to continue to identify areas where we can best serve the community. This facility in Palestine is now our 17th emergency center in the region, and its ability to serve so many fits in perfect harmony [with] our mission to extend the healing ministry of Jesus Christ.”

Jackson Construction, based in Quitman, Texas, is leading the construction efforts, with preliminary site preparations already underway.
