More and more reprocessing companies are emerging as the industry grows. Not because established players are leaving the field, but because as the industry demonstrates success, it attracts more companies. As interest in reducing the cost and environmental impact of healthcare becomes more international, reprocessing companies are emerging outside of the United States and Europe. As more reprocessing companies enter the market, hospitals should be mindful of the risks associated with partnering with reprocessors that do not adhere to the highest standards.
Twenty-five years ago, the Association of Medical Device Reprocessors (AMDR) was founded to ensure adherence to high standards across the industry, and its role in elevating and protecting the industry’s reputation is undisputed and as vital as ever. However, not all companies are AMDR members. As more companies flood the reprocessing market, healthcare providers must also be vigilant and take an active role in ensuring that their reprocessing partners are held to these same high standards—protecting their patients, budgets, and sustainability goals while advancing the reprocessing industry’s credibility and success.
