Barco has announced plans to incorporate NVIDIA’s newly released IGX Thor platform into its NexxisCompute system. The move will bring enhanced real-time processing and support for advanced AI applications in critical clinical environments like operating rooms and interventional radiology labs.
The Kortrijk, Belgium-based company said the integration will allow NexxisCompute to support multiple AI applications simultaneously, offering hospitals greater flexibility in how they deploy software tools without being tied to specific vendors. The platform is designed to streamline hardware requirements for developers while maintaining stringent quality assurance controls for clinical use.
NVIDIA’s IGX Thor platform combines integrated and discrete Blackwell GPUs to deliver high-performance AI compute, up to 5,581 FP4 teraflops, with 400 GbE connectivity. Compared to earlier generations, the platform offers up to eight times the AI compute power on integrated GPUs and 2.5 times more on discrete GPUs, alongside doubled bandwidth. These specifications are expected to facilitate the deployment of complex AI models, including large language and vision-language models, at the point of care.

Barco intends to capitalize on IGX Thor’s industrial-grade reliability, which includes a 10-year product life cycle and compatibility with NVIDIA’s AI Enterprise tools and Holoscan SDK for real-time sensor processing.
“By embracing NVIDIA IGX Thor, Barco is taking a bold step forward in delivering high-performance, reliable, and safe AI solutions at the medical edge,” said Johan Fornier, executive vice president of Barco’s surgical and modality business unit. “This collaboration with NVIDIA allows us to accelerate the development and rollout of our edge AI solutions and to support our customers in their adoption of AI based applications.”
Barco’s adoption of the IGX Thor platform aligns with its broader strategy to position NexxisCompute as a scalable and vendor-neutral foundation for next-generation medical AI deployments.
