Medtronic and GE HealthCare have renewed and broadened a multiyear strategic alliance aimed at integrating monitoring technologies and expanding collaboration across hospital care settings.

The Galway, Ireland-based medical device manufacturer said the updated agreement builds on more than 30 years of collaboration with the Chicago-based imaging and healthcare technology company. The expanded scope now includes bedside monitoring, telemetry, ambulatory monitoring, maternal-infant care and perioperative monitoring.

Under the arrangement, several Medtronic monitoring technologies will continue to be integrated into GE HealthCare’s patient monitoring platforms. These include Nellcor pulse oximetry, Microstream capnography, INVOS regional oximetry and BIS brain monitoring. The parameters will be incorporated across GE HealthCare systems such as the FlexAcuity platform, CARESCAPE Canvas monitors and Carevance monitors, including applications used in maternal and infant care.

The companies said the collaboration is intended to help clinicians access monitoring data across different care environments while supporting more standardized technology platforms inside hospitals.

“Our expanded alliance with GE HealthCare reflects our commitment to empowering healthcare professionals with world-class technology to personalize patient care, anytime, anywhere,” said Kate Benedict, president of the Medtronic Acute Care & Monitoring business, part of the company’s medical-surgical portfolio.

The agreement also outlines plans to introduce additional Medtronic technologies within GE HealthCare platforms. Those include next-generation Nellcor pulse oximetry and BIS Advance monitoring systems. The companies also plan to expand integration of wireless wearable monitoring and video laryngoscopy capabilities designed for anesthesia and airway management.

Jason Case, vice president of research and development for Medtronic Acute Care & Monitoring, said the collaboration is expected to speed the deployment of newer monitoring technologies.

“We are excited to continue to collaborate with GE HealthCare to bring our newest innovations in wireless, wearable monitoring and seamless streaming video laryngoscopy from Medtronic to GE HealthCare’s anesthesia and monitoring platforms,” Case said.

The renewed alliance also includes expanded commercial collaboration between Medtronic Acute Care & Monitoring and GE HealthCare’s Patient Care Solutions unit, with the goal of aligning monitoring technologies and supporting hospitalwide clinical workflows.
