Belgium-based Iridium Network has completed its first online adaptive radiation therapy treatment using RaySearch Laboratories’ RayStation treatment planning system and RayCare oncology information system with a Varian TrueBeam linear accelerator.
Online adaptive radiotherapy, or OART, allows clinicians to modify treatment plans during a patient’s treatment session based on imaging captured that day. The approach is intended to account for anatomical changes that can occur between sessions and improve targeting accuracy while limiting radiation exposure to nearby healthy tissue.
Iridium has worked with RaySearch since 2015 and was an early adopter of the company’s RayCare platform, implementing the oncology information system shortly after its commercial release in 2018. In 2024, the Antwerp-based radiation oncology network said it became the first center to use RayCare clinically with a Varian TrueBeam system.

The latest implementation combines RayCare workflow management with RayStation adaptive planning tools. According to the companies, the setup supports automated workflows, deep learning-based segmentation and direct integration with the TrueBeam platform to reduce the time needed for adaptive treatment planning and delivery.
“This first online adaptive treatment with RayStation and RayCare on TrueBeam is an important step forward for Iridium and, above all, for our patients,” said Dr. Piet Dirix, radiation oncologist at Iridium Network, in a statement. “It enables high precision by adapting the treatment to the patient’s anatomy on the day of treatment, while supporting an efficient clinical workflow.”
The treatment was performed May 11.
RaySearch founder and CEO Johan Löf said the milestone demonstrates the potential for online adaptive radiotherapy on standard linear accelerators already installed in many cancer centers, rather than requiring dedicated adaptive treatment systems.
Iridium Network operates radiation oncology services across seven hospitals and 18 locations in Belgium’s Antwerp region, treating more than 6,000 patients annually. Stockholm-based RaySearch develops software for radiation therapy planning, oncology workflow management and treatment analytics.
