Subtle Medical has raised $33 million in new growth financing and appointed medical imaging executive Ohad Arazi as CEO, moves the company says will support expansion of its AI-powered imaging software business.
The Menlo Park, California-based company said Tuesday that the funding was anchored by a Series C round led by funds managed by Morgan Stanley Expansion Capital. Korea-based Shinhan Venture Investment and existing investors Fusion Fund, EnvisionX, BRV and Samsung Ventures also participated. The latest financing brings Subtle Medical’s total capital raised to $86 million.
Subtle develops software designed to improve medical image quality and shorten scan times on existing MR, PET and CT systems. The company said the new funding will be used for product development, global commercial expansion and growth of its vendor-neutral imaging platform.

Founded by Enhao Gong, Ph.D., and Stanford University neuroradiology professor Greg Zaharchuk, M.D., Ph.D., Subtle Medical focuses on AI-based image enhancement and workflow optimization. The company said its technology is deployed on more than 1,300 imaging scanners worldwide and can reduce scan times by as much as 80%.
Arazi succeeds Gong as chief executive officer. Gong will remain with the company as chief science officer, overseeing scientific strategy and supporting operations and partnerships in China.
Arazi has held leadership positions across the medical imaging sector, including roles at Change Healthcare, Zebra Medical Vision and Clarius Mobile Health.
“That's a fundamentally different kind of company, and a bigger opportunity,” Arazi said in a statement. “I've spent my career at the intersection of imaging and enterprise software, and I haven't seen many platforms with this combination of clinical validation and scalability.”
Subtle Medical’s product portfolio includes SubtleHD for MR and SubtlePET imaging. The company is also developing SubtleGAD, a technology intended to support lower-dose gadolinium-enhanced MR exams. According to the company, research has shown the potential to reduce gadolinium contrast dose by up to 90% while maintaining diagnostic image quality.
