MELVILLE, NEW YORK, September 22, 2005 -- FONAR Corporation announced today that it has sold and installed an UprightTM MRI in Tampa, Florida to STAND-UP MRI of Tampa, the 14th unit sold in the state.

"We are pleased to be the first in Tampa to offer this revolutionary magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) system," said Joe McCandrew, Operations Manager and an owner of STAND-UP MRI of Tampa. "Surveys taken at Upright MRI centers indicate that patients truly appreciate the latest invention from FONAR which is the company that first created a commercial MRI. Numerous physicians have said that they hold the Upright MRI in high regard because a diagnosis may often only be made in the weight-bearing position of pain or symptom. No other MRI offers a comparable level of comfort to the FONAR Upright MRI and now the experience is available to the people living in the city of Tampa."

McCandrew continued, "In addition to superior imaging capabilities, the engineers at FONAR have developed the Upright MRI with many patient comforts. The revolutionary design of the Upright MRI allows patients to simply walk in, sit down, and be scanned while watching TV. The comfort of having an MRI scan while watching TV is unrivaled. In addition, the FONAR Upright MRI is much quieter than the traditional 1.5 Tesla tube MRIs. Patients usually don't wear ear plugs but simply listen to speakers mounted on the wall of the room while watching TV. The final outcome is that nearly 100% of patients find the Upright MRI to be a comfortable and beneficial experience." .

"A recent study indicated that recumbent-only MRI can miss the pathology in as many as 50% of cases and that the increased rate of detection by the Upright MRI can significantly improve surgical outcomes for the patient," McCandrew added. "We are so confident that this is the best MRI for our patients and our business strategy that we have placed a partial down payment toward a second FONAR Upright MRI."

Fonar has approximately 500 employees with manufacturing and headquarters on Long Island, New York. It just announced record revenues surpassing $100 million for fiscal year 2005.
