CHICAGO, Nov. 29 -- Eastman Kodak Company's Health Group has announced the signing of its largest ever contract for Picture Archiving and Communications Systems (PACS) and Information Management Solutions (IMS). The multi-million-dollar agreement with National Services Scotland (NSS) positions Kodak as the leading supplier to the NSS-led Scotland National PACS e-health project. This initiative will create a platform to enable the seamless acquisition, storage, retrieval and display of digital patient images within and between clinical sites across Scotland.
Jane Guinn, Chairman and Managing Director Kodak Limited and Sales Director for Kodak's Health Group, UK and Ireland said, "This is the latest in a number of major wins achieved by Kodak worldwide in the IT space. The healthcare information systems market offers a significant growth opportunity for Kodak and we are expanding our investment in this area of the business. Our knowledge and experience of radiology workflow gives us the advantage over our competitors. With the positioning of the new KODAK CARESTREAM brand and an organization now exclusively dedicated to information technology, this win emphasises that Kodak is extremely well positioned to continue its global leadership."
Kodak will deliver both systems and software to the Scotland National PACS project to facilitate efficient management of patient images and data, expansion of information sharing and improved workflow for the benefit of patient care. Specifically, the Kodak PACS solution will deploy KODAK CARESTREAM PACS to 39 hospitals across the country and connect to a further 67 satellite centers with X-ray departments, overall managing an estimated 3.2 million exams annually.

PACS data will be archived centrally at two data centers, utilizing KODAK CARESTREAM Regional Information Management Solution, which will serve the 16 Health Boards across Scotland. Every hospital across the country will have the ability to readily access prior images and reports, regardless of where they were generated, to help radiologists deliver a faster, more accurate diagnosis. Kodak will work with a number of third-party vendors to execute the objectives of the project.
Professor Stuart Bain, Chief Executive, National Services Scotland, commented: "The ability to quickly share clinical information securely throughout the medical communities within Scotland, will undoubtedly be of great benefit to both patients and staff alike."
Implementation will begin with two initial sites in Glasgow; the Southern General Hospital, which includes the Institute of Neurological Sciences and the Victoria Infirmary. A phased roll-out will follow over the next 2.5 years with full deployment anticipated in 2008.
