Angiography and X-Ray were also displayed with the introduction of advanced orthopedic and trauma applications for Siemens AXIOM MULTIX M DR system with mobile flat detector. The new trauma/emergency room configuration will allow clinicians to obtain digital images of critically ill and injured patients within seconds, without having to transfer these patients to the radiology department. In addition, new software enhancements will offer scoliosis and long leg applications for orthopedic imaging.

A headline for GE at RSNA was the introduction of its Lunar IDXA, which not only measures bone density but also determines body composition and fat distribution. The device will help clinicians detect and diagnose bone loss in early stages of the disease by pinpointing bone mineral density. Capable of measuring patients up to 400 lbs., the technology can be used with large patients, including professional athletes who traditionally have not been able to receive a comprehensive fitness diagnosis due to their size. Lunar IDXA uses dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA). It's a total body scan to provide data to clinicians on bone health and body composition. Clinicians can utilize this data to see the effects of a variety of metabolic disorders and their potential impact on bone health and body composition.
GE's iDXA will enable clinicians to detect changes in patients' bone density faster than ever before by offering extremely precise measurement of bone, allowing them to better assess bone mineral density, bone structure and ultimately bone strength, according to the company. As a result, clinicians can monitor a patient's progress and response to therapy earlier in the treatment process by tracking changes in bone health that had previously been too minor to detect. Already sold worldwide, GE received U.S. Food and Drug Administration clearance for its Lunar iDXA bone mineral density system in October 2005.
