UMHS will seek to assist the response and recovery effort in a way that is streamlined, efficient and meaningful, without adding undue burden. The nature of this disaster means that a sustained long-term response will be needed, and UMHS will stand ready to offer that assistance, the institution indicated. It is providing medical supplies through World Medical Relief, a Detroit-based charity.
Meanwhile, Helicopter Association International (HAI) has been working with the Department of Homeland Security's Critical Incident Management Group (CIMG), which is coordinating with U.S. State Department recovery efforts. CIMG asked HAI to provide a list of available aircraft, specialized capabilities and contact information. The association is directing operators to its First Responder program at www.rotor.com/fr to supply asset and contact information.

Military operations also continue. For example, U.S. Coast Guard Jayhawk helicopters have airlifted patients to the USS Carl Vinson for medical care aboard the aircraft carrier. The hospital ship Comfort, now anchored off-shore is also receiving patients via helicopter.
