5. Practice common-sense prevention in light of flu concerns
In light of concerns with the flu, Americans are encouraged to remain informed and take common-sense steps to stay healthy. Everyone can take sensible steps to prepare for the current annual flu season, which can potentially provide added protection against pandemic flu. Typically, influenza does not peak in the U.S. until February, so check with your physician to get the annual flu vaccine. To avoid germs that cause the flu, wash your hands and avoid touching your nose and mouth with your hands. If you are sick, cover your cough with your sleeve or a tissue.
"These resolutions are simply a few of the things you can do to make positive, healthy lifestyle changes. In 2006, you can continue to look to the AMA and the AMA Web site for a wide range of public health information. And without question, you should continue to turn to your physician to provide the highest quality of care for you and your family," said Dr. Hill.
