HIMMS 2010 takes
place March 1 - 4 in
Atlanta, GA
This report appears in the March 2010 issue of DOTmed Business News, available at the show.

DOTmed is returning to the Heath Information Management Systems Society conference and exposition, the world's largest health informatics event, running March 1 - 4 at Atlanta's Georgia World Congress Center.

The theme for this year's show is "Change Is Everywhere...Opportunity Is Here," and it promises to be chock full of educational and networking events including keynote sessions with the likes of David Blumenthal, National Coordinator for Health Information Technology for the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, and Chesley B. "Sully" Sullenberger, the pilot who executed a Hudson River landing of US Airways Flight 1549, bringing 155 people to safety.

This year's agenda offers more than 200 educational sessions and symposiums, as well as vendor presentations and the annual Interoperability Showcase, where competing companies show their collaborative side using the Integrating the Healthcare Enterprise (IHE) profiles as a common language across local, regional, and national health information exchanges. Last year, there were almost 27,500 attendees at the 2009 HIMSS meeting, a slight decrease from 2008's event. Stay tuned for news coming out of the meeting, including coverage of new products and trends and the most recent registration numbers.

DOTmed News reporters and a DOTmed News camera crew will be on site, roving the tradeshow floor and meeting with more than 25 companies and influential health IT decision makers, and attending some of the many sponsored after-hours events. Just a few interviewees on our list this year include experts from McKesson, Siemens, GE, Eclipsys and Kaiser Permanente. We'll be discussing the most important issues and technological trends going on in the digital world of the electronic medical record, advanced visualization and the latest in software, and no-ware technologies in health care.

We'll also get to the bottom of the newest definitions of meaningful use as it pertains to the health IT funding provided in the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. This issue is going to be especially relevant this year and years following, as stimulus funding begins to roll out to eligible providers and organizations. Check out the DOTmed Online News video channel for clips and company profiles, as well as new reports from what we glean in Atlanta.
