Health care reform remains a hot topic for all aspects of the industry. Diagnostic imaging, in particular, may see a wave of changes in both legislation and regulation that could have a negative impact.
The upcoming Imaging 100 Conference, a meeting of diagnostic imaging executives, will include a session, "Health Care Reform: What's in it For Me." It will feature four speakers in a panel discussion, including Maggie Sayre of The Association for Quality Imaging, and Wayne Blank of MedQuest Associates.
Blank, a corporate compliance officer, stressed that usage assumptions underpinning reimbursement formulas are disadvantageous and not representative. Moving forward, Blank's company, MedQuest, is putting together a national survey to try to better represent imaging equipment usage, he says.

Blank encourages attendees to take away from the discussion the fact that "this field is very fluid and dynamic...we really need to stay aware of [health care] changes and get out in front to make sure our voice is heard in the decision-making process."
Sayre, executive director of The Association for Quality Imaging, will discuss the latest news in health care reform; she agrees with the importance of uniting to be heard. "If [attendees] aren't already members of the association, they should be, because we've got a tough year ahead of us on the legislative and regulatory front," she says. "We need to band together and work on these issues.
These and other dynamics will be explored in the executive session. Also on the panel will be Leonard Lucey of the American College of Radiology and Sayre's colleague Scott Garrett.
The 4th Annual Imaging 100 will bring together leaders from all facets of the medical imaging industry March 20-23 at the Chateau Elan Golf Resort & Winery in Braselton, Georgia.
