While the white lab coat has been banned in the United Kingdom to avoid contamination in hospitals, American doctors and physicians find a sense of comfort in seeing the traditional lab coat, explains Lorrie Anderson, director of marketing for Vestagen Technical Textiles.

The company's new lab coat and scrub wear are equipped with technologies to repel fluids, kill microbes and wick away moisture - similar to high-performance athletic wear. Anderson spoke with DOTmed at the recent AORN conference about her company's innovative technology.

Mercy Health Partners, a group of hospitals in Tennessee, purchased the Vestex lab coats to present them to staff physicians in honor of National Doctors' Day on March 30.
