Swiss Breast Cancer Patient Becomes First in World to Receive Treatment Using Gated RapidArc from Varian Medical Systems

Press releases may be edited for formatting or style | September 01, 2010

Gated RapidArc is a standard feature on the new TrueBeam™ system and is available as an option or upgrade on the Trilogy® and Clinac® iX accelerators from Varian.

Varian's RapidArc capability is now installed in more than 500 clinics around the world and the company has recorded more than 1,000 orders for the product since introducing it in 2008. Gated RapidArc, which was introduced earlier this year, is the next generation version of this clinical tool. As a result of being able to deliver IMRT treatments much more quickly than conventional fixed beam IMRT, RapidArc has the potential to enhance treatment precision and patient comfort while significantly lowering the cost per treatment.
