Siemens Healthcare said Monday its first mobile X-ray with a wireless detector received Food and Drug Administration 510(k) clearance, and is now commercially available in the United States.
The Mobilett Mira features integrated drive so it can fit more easily into elevators, and a swivel arm that rotates up to 90 degrees, to give it more flexibility in scanning patients. Its new detector has a resolution of more than 7 million pixels, Malvern, Pa.-based Siemens Healthcare said, and the machine has an output power of up to 35 kW or 450 mA.
And because it no longer needs a cord, it's potentially more hygienic, as the cord is another possible pathogen-carrier that needs to be sanitized, Siemens said.

The unit also receives regular, wireless updates, including malware protection, through Siemens Remote Services, a mobile X-ray first, the company said.
It also features an "eco-mode," which Siemens said uses about a quarter less energy. And to top it off, the equipment can come with a pediatrics-friendly giraffe design.
