Samsung's SonoAce UGEO ultrasound line
When Korean electronics giant Samsung Electronics bought Medison Co. in 2010, an established South Korean maker of ultrasound equipment, it became one of the newest players in the medical equipment marketplace, and was part of the company's billion-dollar push into medicine.
At Medica 2012 last week in Dusseldorf, Germany, Samsung showed off its product line for medical imaging with the introduction of the SonoAce UGEO H60 ultrasound device for OB-GYN practices. Samsung retained the SonoAce ultrasound product line name from Medison.
The mid-range ultrasound device features the only LED screen on an ultrasound platform, according to the company.

Its other unique feature may not be all that surprising from an electronics company that's known more for its cell phones: The SonoAce UGEO H60 can connect with Samsung smart phones and tablets. For example, pregnant women can share ultrasound images of their child with friends and family through Smart Connection applications.
According to a senior marketing manager at Samsung, the SonoAce UGEO H60 — along with Samsung's other medical technology — will have a big debut at RSNA as well, which gets underway next week in Chicago.
