Torrance, CA - Shimadzu Medical Systems USA, a subsidiary of Shimadzu Corporation, and its southeast regional dealer CMS Imaging, have completed installation of nine radiography and two radiography/fluoroscopy imaging systems at Holy Cross Hospital in Fort Lauderdale. The equipment acquisition is part of an extensive remodeling and expansion of Holy Cross' diagnostic imaging department to meet the needs of a steadily expanding population in Southeast Florida.

The 559-bed Sisters of Mercy hospital is a member of CHE Trinity Health. A full-service hospital recognized for its orthopedic, cardiac and oncology services, Holy Cross offers clinical excellence throughout the continuum of care. A Comprehensive Stroke Center, Holy Cross also has been named One of Healthgrades America's 100 Best Hospitals for Joint Replacement™ for 2 Years in a Row (2012-2013).

The sale of eleven diagnostic imaging systems by CMS Imaging was made in late 2012, in a staged installation. Five x-ray imaging suites were equipped with Radspeed systems and tables that support patients weighing up to 650 pounds. One system has Shimadzu's Speed Stitch software that enable radiologic technologists to instantly obtain extra-large images of the length of a body, such as those required of patients with scoliosis.

The addition of four Shimadzu Mobile DaRt systems are being used to perform digital x-ray exams in intensive and critical care units of the hospital as well as in the emergency department itself. These quiet systems combine easy navigability and maneuverability to make positioning of patients easy while producing low-dose, blur-free high quality diagnostic exams.

For its fluoroscopy exams, Holy Cross Hospital purchased both a high-speed digital radiography/fluoroscopy and a conventional fluoroscopy system. Shimadzu's workhorse Sonialvision Versa, designed to acquire a wide variety of exams, produces high definition, high-contrast 1024 x 1024 matrix images.

The system has a wide fluoroscopic and radiographic image field that provides head-to-toe imaging coverage of a patient. It incorporates low radiation dose, pulsed fluoroscopy that produces excellent image quality. Another feature offers selectable step-down radiation dose levels that produce lower resolution images appropriate for endoscopy and guide-wire visualization procedures.

High x-ray incidence angles and an easily tiltable, height adjustable, perfectly flat tabletop is designed for patient comfort movement, and minimal positioning changes. The versatile patient table accommodates bariatric patients weighing up to 700 pounds, patients on stretchers, and wheelchair-restricted patients.
