On Tuesday, Philips Healthcare announced that they are spearheading a consortium of radiologists, physicians, bioengineers and payors to develop applications for tablet ultrasounds.

The goal is to come up with new uses for ultrasound so that it can aid physicians in making more accurate and faster diagnoses and ultimately reduce health care costs. The applications will be used in almost every situation, ranging from the emergency department to the patient’s home.
