STOCKHOLM, Sweden -- Uppsala County, north of Stockholm, has selected KODAK CARESTREAM Radiology Solutions comprising PACS (picture archiving and communications system) and RIS (radiology information system) and KODAK CARESTREAM Information Management Solution (IMS) to serve its regional health system.

Uppsala County Council conducted an extensive evaluation process that involved a number of key suppliers across the industry prior to selecting the RIS/PACS/IMS solution, which will connect more than 200 modalities from the prestigious Uppsala University Hospital, the Enkoping Hospital, two smaller satellites based in Tierp and Osthammar and 30 primary health centres.

The County Council is currently deploying a common EPR (electronic patient record) across the region and a key factor in the choice of vendor was the ability to integrate data from a diverse range of systems into one storage platform to enable fast and efficient storage, distribution and on-demand retrieval of a patients entire records. Kodaks architecture efficiently manages virtually all types of multi-media information including images, laboratory results, video files and other non-DICOM data as part of a central storage solution.

We proved that we had both the products and expertise to fully meet the complex requirements of Uppsala County Council, particularly in respect of archive functionality, said Peter Soderholm, Healthcare Information Solutions, Kodaks Health Group in Sweden. Consolidation of medical data from a variety of sources into a patient record was essential in meeting their objectives of faster, more efficient workflow. The Kodak architecture will bring a number of new efficiencies to the region.

The region of Uppsala has a rich heritage for healthcare innovation with Akademiska Hospital becoming Swedens first university clinic as far back as 1708. Today, the regions health system employs over 11,000 people across its four hospital sites and primary health centres and is involved in around 150,000 imaging studies annually.

KODAK CARESTREAM Radiology Solutions help automate the diagnostic exam process by pr providing a comprehensive scalable architecture that addresses diverse operational needs. These powerful solutions can be easily integrated with third-party radiology, clinical, or hospital information systems to create a highly productive desktop and workflow environment.

Kodak also provides focus beyond radiology solutions to address the patient information management needs of hospital and healthcare systems.
