Agfa HealthCare Signs Multi-Million Dollar PACS Project With Thomas Memorial Hospital

Thomas Memorial Hospital,
South Charleston, West Virginia
Agfa HealthCare has signed a multi-million dollar deal with Thomas Memorial Hospital in South Charleston, West Virginia (USA), a 260-bed facility that provides a complete Radiology Information System / Picture Archiving and Communication System / Reporting and Computed Radiology (RIS/PACS/Reporting and CR) solution. The installation includes Agfa HealthCares IMPAX 6.0 PACS and the newest version of Agfa HealthCares reporting solution, TalkStation 3.1. It also includes six DX-S CR systems, which feature Agfa HealthCares unique DirectriX needle-based detector technology and Scanhead line-to-line CR stimulation and light collection technology, for improved image quality and workflow.

As part of an expansion project, the hospital is constructing a new imaging center across the street from the main facility. It also already has an offsite MRI center (Metro MRI) in a separate location. All three facilities will be connected via Agfa HealthCare's complete system. The new imaging center, Thomas Imaging Center, is expected to open in March 2007, at which time the integrated Agfa HealthCare RIS/PACS/Reporting and CR solution will be fully implemented and operational.

The new system marks the first time the hospital will use a fully digital solution.

"We are eager to bring in the new Agfa HealthCare systems, beginning with the RIS project," said Bill Lucas, PACS Administrator, Thomas Memorial Hospital. "The addition of the Agfa HealthCare IT and imaging systems will make our imaging services group, which currently features a full range of services -- from radiology, bone density, digital mammography with computer aided detection, nuclear medicine, ultrasound, Magnetic Resonance Imaging and CT Scan -- the most advanced in the region."

Teamwork between Agfa HealthCare and Radon Medical Imaging, a Quantum Medical Imaging dealer, played a key role in this sale. Radon has a long-standing service relationship with Thomas Memorial and will play a key role with Agfa HealthCare in the Thomas solution.

"More and more community hospitals, including Thomas Memorial, are finding that Agfa HealthCare's global expertise in imaging and IT and our solutions offer superior results for their patients and a significant return on investment," said Agfa HealthCare's David Chambers, vice president, Sales and Marketing, IT Solutions, U.S. "The fully digital implementation of Agfa HealthCare's solutions at Thomas Memorial will help the hospital improve patient care, by enabling medical personnel to work more efficiently."
