Outpatient solutions for joint replacement patients offered to ambulatory surgery centers nationwide by deputy synthes companies

Outpatient joint replacement is a growing trend driven by less-invasive surgical techniques, better pain management techniques, improved recovery and rehabilitation protocols, and patients who want to return home as soon as possible.[1] However, experts say these outpatient procedures still represent a small percentage of the more than 1 million knee and hip replacements performed each year in the United States.[2]

“As an industry leader in orthopaedics, we have an opportunity to support adoption of outpatient joint replacement through proven and comprehensive programs that go beyond the implant with the goals of improving clinical outcomes, increasing patient satisfaction and reducing costs,” said Zellner. “We expect more health care professionals will consider outpatient joint replacement as an important option for their patients, and we will be right there with them to provide the support they need to optimize outcomes.”

DEPUY SYNTHES ADVANTAGE Programs: CareSense and PATIENT ATHLETE Program
Data collection and patient engagement play a particularly important role in an outpatient setting and
DePuy Synthes Companies is offering ASCs two important fee-based tools as part of its outpatient solutions to help in data collection and patient engagement.

CareSense enables health care providers and facilities to collect and analyze
real-time data on patient outcomes, patient satisfaction and costs before, during and after surgery, to help optimize care. The system makes it easy to conduct market research, administer satisfaction surveys, benchmark against peers, and analyze financial metrics.

While CareSense focuses on data collection and analysis, the Patient Athlete Program is a self-guided, video-based training program that focuses on wellness and the overall patient experience to help joint, trauma and spine patients prepare for surgery and emerge afterwards stronger and healthier in both mind and spirit. The program has been successfully piloted in four cities and a survey of these patients found that more than half (55%) of them felt they recovered more quickly and were less fearful of surgery because of the program.
