SuperSonic Imagine showcases real-time ShearWave Elastography

At ECR this year, there was no shortage of ultrasound innovations on the exhibition floor. Among them was SuperSonic Imagine and its real-time ShearWave Elastography offering, Aixplorer, for disease assessment and musculoskeletal imaging.

Two complimentary — and new — technologies were demonstrated on the showroom floor; Angio PL.U.S. and its SuperEndocavity Volumetric transducer.

Angio PL.U.S. (Planewave UltraSensitive) provides a new level of microvascular imaging through improved color sensitivity and spatial resolution without compromising 2-D imaging, increasing the retail available in real-time ultrasound exams.

The SuperEndocavity Volumetric transducer is an endo transducer that enables 2-D and 3-D imaging for B-Mode, Color modes and ShearWave Elastography — allowing for new insights into prostate cancer as well as gynecologic and obstetrics applications. The transducer is already on the market.

"From my experience, the new 3-D endocavity transducer brings significant improvement to prostate imaging with ultrasound and could provide a true alternative to multi-parametric MR imaging currently used for prostate cancer," said Jean-Michel Correas in a statement, the vice-chairman at the Adult Radiography Department at Necker University Hospital in Paris, France.

ShearWave Elastography, which these new technologies compliment, is a quick kind of ultrasound exam that creates color-coded maps and quantitative measurements of tissue stiffness to identify and assess conditions in the liver, breast, prostate or thyroid.

"Clinicians are eager for imaging advances and new tools to help identify and diagnose suspicious lesions while avoiding unnecessary imaging or biopsies," said Jacques Souquet, SuperSonic Imagine's chief innovation officer and founder. "Angio PL.U.S. and our new 3-D endo transducer combined with our existing innovations, SWE and UltraFast Doppler, represent significant advancements to the arsenal of non-invasive diagnostic tools for cancer or other major diseases."

To date, over 300 peer-reviewed articles have explored the benefits of ShearWave Elastography in a wide range of clinical applications.
