Siteman and ViewRay partner for linac-based MR-guided radiation therapy research

As of January, the department was participating in three clinical trials exploring MR-guided radiation therapy for lung, abdomen and breast.

Though ViewRay’s backlog of orders for the MRIdian system more than doubled last year — hitting $78 million at the end of September — the company had only installed a handful of the machines, according to a report by Crain's Cleveland Business. It generated just $5.3 million in sales during the quarter that ended in September, the most recent figure available, and it lost $10.3 million.

Elekta has also developed a comparable MR image-guided linear accelerator system with Philips. So far, two of Elekta’s machines have been installed at academic medical centers, and are also only being used for research purposes at this time.
