Mineola, NY – Winthrop-University Hospital is pleased to announce the appointment of Ajay Misra, MD, to Chairman of the Department of Neurosciences.

Board certified in Neurology, Dr. Misra has expertise in Neurophysiology, Neuromuscular Disease and General Neurology. As one of the leading neurologists on Long Island, Dr. Misra specializes in Disorder of Peripheral Nerves, Muscle Diseases, Myasthenia Gravis, Alzheimer’s Disease, Electrodiagnostics and Migraine Disorders.

Dr. Misra earned his Medical Degree from the Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Medical College in Indore, India. Following the completion of his residency training and certification in Internal Medicine in India and England, Dr. Misra completed Adult Neurology residency training and a Fellowship in Neurophysiology at North Shore University Hospital/Weill Medical College of Cornell University. He went on to complete an additional two year Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) Clinical and Research Fellowship in Neuromuscular Diseases at the University of Southern California (USC) and the Los Angeles Veterans Administration. There, he joined the full-time faculty of the Department of Neurology at USC, and became Chief of Neurology and Co-Director of the Neuromuscular Laboratory at the Veteran Affairs Outpatient Clinic in Los Angeles, California before relocating to Long Island. Dr. Misra resides in Huntington, NY.

He has a passion for patient care, education and clinical teaching, exemplified in being twice voted Attending of the Year at Winthrop. In addition to his clinical responsibilities, Dr. Misra continues to hold crucial appointments in Winthrop’s Medical Staff Organization (MSO) and Physician Hospital Organization (PHO).
